FSDAA General Meeting Minutes
St. Augustine, Florida
December 6, 2014
President David Nelson opened the meeting at 1:30 pm by welcoming everyone, saying he was glad to see so many take part in today’s luncheon. He pointed out the three floor plan diagrams of the old Walker Hall at FSDB, which he purchased. These will be donated to FSDAA, and then these will be loaned for display in the FSDB museum.
President Nelson then gave recognition to former FSDB teachers and staff who were present – Judith Wade, Donna Drake, Bob Lange, and Carmen Tiberio. He expressed gratitude for the close relationship FSDAA has with the school, noting that FSDB President Jeanne Prickett and her husband Hugh Prickett were at the luncheon (Dr. Prickett gave brief remarks).
He remarked on his positive experience at the Biennial NAD Conference in Atlanta last summer, and how proud he was of the FSDB students and graduates (five of them) who were there both on behalf of Junior NAD and the Florida Association of the Deaf. Alumni also volunteered at the FSDB exhibit, so FSDAA was well represented there. FSDAA has also made it a tradition to be part of school Commencement ceremonies.
Treasurer Melany “Mel” Goodall then reported on FSDAA financials for the period of November 1, 2013 through October 31, 2014 with total checking/savings balance of $1,844.18. Checking account activity has been minimal, with a current balance of $1,253.69. Donations received through December 5, 2014 now totals $705.00, the majority of which is designated for May 2015 FSDAA scholarships – additional donations are welcomed. $15.00 of that amount is designated for FSDAA Hall of Fame purposes.
Brendan “BP” Murphy who volunteers as Museum Historian then reported on FSDB Museum matters. He also explained that next year will be the 130th anniversary of FSDB. McClure Center (former Building 7) is now 100 years old. The recent Homecoming was the 45th, and he is almost done with his research on 100 years of football history.
Nancy Bloch, director of FSDB Communications and Public Relations, asked if anyone has seen the new school website, a few hands went up. She encouraged people to check it out regularly, outlining new features. The Alumni section has individual pages for blind alumni and for deaf alumni, a museum page, and a page where alumni can update their contact information/records. FSDB is working closely with both alumni organizations, in a supportive manner.
President Nelson stated that he has met the president of FSBAA and their organization is strong and they hold yearly alumni reunions at the school. He shared that some people have asked that FSDAA do similar in the future.
Treasurer Goodall moved that FSDAA transfer ownership of the postal mail box located in St. Augustine from its previous owner (Andy Von Dolteren-deceased) to the treasurer. Carried.
President Nelson opened the floor for nominations for new board officers – president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary, in addition to new board at-large members (up to six).

McGraw was elected by majority vote. The new Board will address the rest of the vacant at-large spots at a later date.
